The first development cycle is almost over. This release candidate introduce few new features, and announces some more changes that will be available in 1.0.0 stable release. At this point I had no time to update documentation, so if you are confused by some of the (new) options, please visit a forum and ask whatever you need to know. I will try to go through all changes made for this release, and beleive me, the list is very extensive. For full changelog, you can check Google Code plugin page.
Bug FixesThis version includes some very important bug fixes. Few widget rendering and calculation bugs are fixed. Some small problems in the main plugin class also, few typos, missing translation strings and xhtml validity. Shortcode invalid location rendering is also fixed. But most important fix was related to a global constants that caused problems on certain server setups. ShortcodesStarRating shortcode is fully redesigned, cleaned up and made to have the same options as the widget. Also, uses templates with more then 10 available template elements. TiniyMCE Editor plugin is also redesigned, and optiomized to generate ’shorter’ shortcode depending on the selected and default settings. This new version is not compatible with old shortcode, so you need to make an update to shortcodes in posts to continue using it. Graphics ChangesAs you can see this version has only 5 stars sets built in. If you need more, you can download them from my blog. The reason for this is to make the plugin package smaller, and to make customization easier. Now each set has special description file that will be used, and no code modifications are required for adding new sets. There is an option on general settings page to rescan stars and trends image folders for new sets. I say folders, becasue there are two locations for images. One is default location in plugin folder. But when you update plugin, this often get deleted, and if you had any custom sets they will be lost. Because of that there is another location that will remain when plugin is updated. This location is ‘wp-content/gd-star-rating’. In this folder you need two folders: stars and trends, and sets go in there. Plugin will know to scan this folders and will use images from there. Import & ExportImport options will be able to trasform data from otehr rating plugins into GD Star Rating. Currently only one is fully completed, and two more will be completed soon. Export will let you save to file (CSV format) user votes, post statistics and so on. Right now, only user votes are exported. And moreNew calculation method is available, called Bayesian mean estimate. This is similar to rating calculation used on IMDb. Some old and unneeded code is removed, some functions are merged together. More is done towards compatibility with upcoming WordPress 2.7. Stable 1.0.0 version will be available on Halloween, in less then 2 weeks. This version will have more bugs fixed, complete user guide and one new important feature for time restriction of voting either by using countdown or date limit restriction. Also, it will have partial charting support for statistical purposes and new top rating widget. And after that, a new devlopment cycle will begin and will introduce many new options and features. |

I’ve got an error: not possible to activate the extension
Because of scandir() function, that is php5 only function. I will add fix tonight.
you are right cause I’m using php 4
I’m getting a fatal error:
Fatal error: Call to a member function get_url() on a non-object in *path-to-my-site*/wp-content/plugins/gd-star-rating/gd-star-rating.php on line 847

Oh, and please do NOT remove previous versions from your website right away. I want to back a version now, but there’s nowhere to download (I use the automatic upgrader in WP), so I’m stuck with a non-working plugin until you reply..

Older version are available on WordPress website: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/gd-star-rating/download/. As for your problem I need more info, but my guess is that this is upgrade related problem, that can be solved by going to settings page and save settings again. There are some changes that could be a problem when upgrading to this version. If not, make a new topic on the forum and describe what settings do you use.
I’m having the same problems as others are describing above. DO NOT INSTALL VERSION 0.9.9 UNTIL THIS BUG IS FIXED! I’m also worried that if I reinstall version 0.9.8, I’ll lose my many settings. If so, it will be a huge waste of my time. Indeed, right now it’s too painful for me to even think about.

Same here. I’m using Yahoo hosting and when I activate the .9.9 it says error: not possible to activate the extension
Reverting to old version will cause some settings lose. New version will be up in the next hour.
